Elk Slope Preference model is a transparent overlay that depicts areas of 15-30% slopes that occur within forest cover patches of 30 acres or more. Only mountainous areas where elk occur in Montana are included. The Elk Slope Preference model overlay comes bundled in our Hunting & Fishing Combo package.
This habitat preference model is derived from 10 meter DEM and LADESC Landcover Database information to bring you the first elk habitat preference model for Garmin GPS. Weve read as many regional studies on elk habitat preference as we could find in order to assess what we could provide given currently available data. What we found is that elk prefer sloped terrain between 15%-30% and forest cover patch sizes of 30 acres or more. Whether youre a novice hunter or a seasoned veteran of elk country, this habitat model will allow you to see elk country in a way you never could before now.
