USGS GNIS to GPX Converter

This converter will take USGS GNIS (Geographic Names Information System) csv files delmited by "|" from the USGS GNIS database and convert them into usable GPX files. This tool works great for adding locations to map such as summits, water tanks, cities, etc.

Q: Where is the link to download the "|" Delimited file?
A: The link is near the bottom left of the page, it looks like this:

Q: Why would I append the elevation to the name?
A: I found it is the best way to mark summits in my own maps. It turns "Baldy Peak" into "Baldy Peak, 4052ft". This way when the point is hovered over it gives the name and exact elevation.

Q: Are there any member benefits with this tool?
A: Yes, most GPX files are stored for 24hrs. Members have access to their GPX files for a week from their "Your Files" area.
